Disney Pictures, UTV Software Communications Ltd. and Aamir Khan Productions’ Dangal, as the name suggests, is a film about wrestling. The film is a biopic of Mahavir Singh Phogat, one of the legendary wrestlers of India.

Right from the word go, Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) lives with a dream of winning a gold medal for India in the international arena. Because of reasons which were beyond his control, he becomes unsuccessful in fulfilling his most cherished dream. That’s why he dreams of having a son from his pregnant wife (Sakshi Tanwar), in order to fulfil his dream. As luck would have it, all the four children turn out to be daughters, which saddens Mahavir Singh Phogat to a large extent. One day, a certain incident in the school involving his two daughters Geeta (Zaira Wasim) and Babita (Suhani Bhatnagar) changes his perspective about his daughters. Thereafter, he starts his rigorous training sessions with Geeta and Babita, in order to enable them to win the much cherished gold medal for India.

Does Mahavir Singh Phogat’s incessant training with his daughters bear fruits, do his daughters make him proud by realising his dream of winning the gold medal and what are the constraints that the Phogats face whilst achieving their goal is what forms the rest of the film.
